Maserati isn't known for blending in, and the 2022
Quattroporte does so with a brashness that stands out in the
full-size luxury sedan category. Competitors like the Audi A8,
BMW 7-series, and Mercedes-Benz S-class provide greater
comfort and convenience features, but the Maserati adds the
heat with turbocharged powertrains meant to entice enthusiast
drivers.
This is a car in which practically anyone could stretch out in
plenty of comfort, whether in the front or rear. Taller adults
won't find much rear head room, but the car is similar to many
Mercedes-Benz S-Class limousines in this regard. The boot is
spacious, and unlike some full-size luxury alternatives, it has
split folding seat-backs that, while not completely flat, let you
carry larger cargo.
The standard engine is a 345-hp V-6, but a 424-hp version is
more fun, and the top-spec Trofeo comes with a 580-hp V-8.
Buyers can personalise the Quattroporte with a variety of
inside and exterior trims and appearance packages.
The Quattroporte Trofeo drives like a big, hefty, premium
saloon car with plenty of power, but not always as much grip
and composure as it needs to effectively deploy it. And it isn't
particularly offensive in doing so since, after all, if you want to
produce a performance limousine, you must first make a
limousine. The Maserati's predilection for ride comfort and a
touch of dynamic gentility ensures that it is always at least
moderately pleasant and easy to drive.
